Diesel Particulate Filter Washing Process

Diesel Particulate Filter Washing Process

Particulate filter was first used in some versions of Euro 4 vehicles. In the next process, it became mandatory to use the DPF system in all Euro 4, Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles in order to reduce environmental pollution caused by exhaust fumes.

The Particle Filter looks like a honeycomb. Since the combustion process of the fuel in the engine is not fully realized, it must be thrown out as smoke. Unburned gases are attached to the particulate filter while being ejected. Burning gases are thrown out by passing through the smallest pore of the filter.

Gases that cannot be thrown out cause problems after a while. In other words, it causes clogging of the particulate filter. Gases that cannot be released will damage the engine of the vehicle and cause it to fall out of traction. In order to prevent this problem, pressure sensors in vehicles are used.

The only task of these sensors is to measure the level of sediments formed in the particulate filter. If the level is too high and clogging has started, the regeneration process is started. If the soot level is excessively high, the regeneration process will not be able to start, and in this case, a blockage will occur, which will cause the engine malfunction lamp to come on.

There are actually some simple issues that we need to pay attention to in order to prevent the particle filters from getting clogged.

Conditions to be considered;

Fuel quality is one of the most important points to be considered. The use of poor quality fuel causes clogging in the filter over time. While moving with the thought of saving fuel, it may cause the vehicle to encounter more serious problems.
If the engine oil used is not compatible with the quality and particulate filter, it may cause the filter to clog over time.
The constant stop-and-go situation in heavy traffic causes the filter to clog quickly. Running the vehicle at idle for a long time is also one of the factors that accelerate the clogging process of the particulate filter.

How Can We Clean the Clogged Particulate Filter?

The clogged particulate filter can be used in 2 different ways. These methods are;

It is the cleaning of the soot formed in the diesel particulate filter with a special device and liquid or the filter change. However, the cleaning process is more advantageous as the part replacement process causes very serious amounts for the users.

There are 2 options for the cleaning method;

Cleaning on a service basis; With this method, your vehicle is connected to the clip device and reached the highest temperature with the command. Thanks to the high temperature, the soot in the particle is burned, and it is discharged and the particulate filter is opened.

Cleaning at high speed; In fact, this method will be useful in our application from time to time. Because it is the cleanest and least costly method we can use to clean existing institutions. Let’s use the vehicle on 3rd gear 3000 rpm for 15 minutes on long road trips. The soot formed thanks to the high speed will burn thanks to the high temperature and the malfunction will be eliminated.
